Space4Rail is a new European Space Agency (ESA) initiative that aims to support the railway community by raising awareness of the added value that space systems can deliver, and highlighting ESA funding programmes with the potential to support their use.
The initiative identifies ESA funding programmes that can support potential opportunities for the exploitation of space-based assets such as communication, navigation and earth observation satellites to meet today’s challenges and needs in railway operations.
ESA can offer financial and technical support to projects – including access to its specialists and Agency laboratories – while acting as a broker between the space industry, the railway industry and service providers.
The ESA programmes included in the Space4Rail initiative are Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES); General Support Technology Programme (GSTP); Technology Research Programme (TRP) and General Studies Programme (GSP).
