Mohsen Pour-Seyed Aqaei, Managing Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR) and Henric Hololei, Director General for Mobility and Transport of European Commission (DG MOVE) discussed development of railway cooperation between the two sides.
Aqaei enumerated IRIR’s capabilities and presented a report on possiblities to connect the Iranian railway network to Asian and European borders as well as southern Iranian port city of Khorramshahr to Iraq, Herat in Afghanistan, to CIS countries through Turkmenistan and Astara to Azerbaijan.
Hololei expressed readiness for bilateral cooperation, transfer of technology and consultations to Iran concerning railway projects and joint cooperation in different sectors.
In order to increase its passenger trains speed on different rail lines, the IRIR is considering capabilities of different countries in the world to electrify some of its main railway lines.
