EVAG, the public transport company of Erfurt, has presented at Magdeburger Allee depot the first TramLink light rail vehicle (the so-called tram no. 801) manufactured by Stadler, after four weeks of intensive testing and test drives.
“With the new trams, we guarantee a stable local public transport system with massive contribution to the reduction of carbon dioxide,” Peter Zaiß, the Managing Director of SWE Stadtwerke Erfurt GmbH.
From beginning of June, the 42-metre-long vehicle will operate the Buga line linking the main rail station with two exhibition areas at Petersberg and egapark.
The TramLink is almost 20 per cent longer than the previous trams in Erfurt and has a capacity of 248 passengers with 102 seats.
“The TramLink improves the comfort of passengers and drivers. The new trams are equipped with air conditioning and create a friendly environment with bright and barrier-free passenger compartments and high-quality materials. The driver’s everyday work is also improving: the ergonomically designed driver’s desk enables good all-round visibility. It is also equipped with a modern touch screen,” Jure Mikolčić, CEO Stadler Germany, said during the presentation.
The TramLink light rail vehicle is equipped with modern door technology which also includes green or red LED lights showing passengers whether it is possible to get on or off safely.
The new energy-efficient LRVs are also equipped with modern drive system, on-board power supply, vehicle control and air conditioning systems. A CO2 sensor constantly measures the air quality and the air conditioning system heats or cools exactly the volume of fresh air required by the number of passengers. “The energy-efficient concept also means that the recuperated braking energy is either used by the vehicle itself or fed back into the overhead line network,” Alexander Ketterl, Managing Director of Kiepe Electric said, that is supplying the electrical equipment of the vehicles under a contract signed in 2019 with Stadler.
In 2018, EVAG and Stadler signed the contract for the delivery of 14 TramLink LRVs. The two companies agreed on an option for ten additional light rail vehicles to renew EVAG tram fleet, but the financing for the new vehicles has not yet been secured.
From June, two trams will be delivered every month, so that in November the 814 tram will be the last of the 14 ordered trams.
