The Czech rail infrastructure manager SZ and the Zastrel consortium signed the contract for the electrification of Střelice – Zastávka section on Brno – Zastávka rail line which will also be connected with the construction of the second track.
The consortium comprising Subterra, OHLA ŽS and Elektrizace železnic Praha will start the construction work in the spring of next year and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
CZK 3.1 billion (EUR 126.94 million) is the value of the entire project.
On the Brno – Zastávka railway, the modernisation and electrification of the first section from Brno-Horní Heršpice to Střelice will be completed by this spring and will deliver passengers new stops in Brno-Starý Lískovec and Ostopovice. The construction work took place not only in the inter-station section and at the Střelice station, but also several hundred meters behind it in the direction of Tetčice, where the first part of the double-track was created. Construction of its sequel will start in full swing next year. The result of both construction stages will be approximately 20 km of modernised line from Brno-Horní Heršpice to Zastávka u Brna interchange station.
The construction of the second track, which will require a large amount of earthworks and in addition to the renewal of the railway superstructure and substructure, traction masts will be built and the overhead contact line will be stretched.
The project also includes the reconstruction of 11 bridges and 5 culverts. Modern electronic security equipment, as well as the reconstruction of 8 crossings, will contribute to higher operational safety.
The stops in Omice and Rosice near Brno will also undergo reconstruction. The Tetčice station will be renamed Tetčice-Bobrava, and passengers will use the adjoining Tetčice stop, whose platform will end at the existing railway crossing. However, the Zastávka u Brna station will undergo the biggest transformation, where two external and one island platform will be installed. Lifts will provide barrier-free access to the new underpass and platforms. The boarding edges at all stations and stops will be 550 millimeters above the track, which will allow comfortable boarding of trains.
After the construction of the second track and the installation of the ETCS on the Brno – Zastávka rail line the train speed will be increased to 120 km/h from currently 80 km/h.
