Ekaterinburg Metro has received 20 metro cars which were refurbished and modernized by Transmashholding, at its plant in Saint Petersburg.
In July 2019, the two companies signed a contract for the modernisation of 44 metro cars which will be delivered by August 2020.
12 metro modernised metro cars are currently operating the city’s metro network, and three more carriages are in the commissioning procedures. They will enter services at the end of February.
The modernised metro cars are able to run at speeds of 90 km/h and can accommodate up to 308 passengers. The trains feature collector-type motors, time-proven bogies, fire-resistant electric nodes, alarm systems, and fire suppression systems. Their standard lifecycle is 31 years.
