EIB supports Marseille metro project

The European Investment Bank and Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence signed an agreement for the provision of a loan which will fund the rolling stock acquisition and signalling systems for the Marseille metro network.

The EIB will provide EUR 200 million for the procurement of 38 four-car metro trains, the modernisation of the signalling and telecommunication system, including the adaption of the existing infrastructure for driverless technology.

EUR 679 million is the total cost of the project.

For the project, Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence aearded Alstom a EUR 430 million contract for the renewal and automation of its metro system. Under the contract, Alstom will install the operating system and the needed equipment for automatic technology.

Marseille is implementing the Nouveau Metro de Marseille (Neomma) project covering the rolling stock renewal on Line 1 and Line 2, the supply of CBTC, the replacement of the signalling centre at La Rose and a new traffic control centre at Saint-Charles.
