The Mayor of Graz, Siegfried Nagl, and EU Vice-President, Andrew McDowell, signed an agreement for the provision of EUR 100 million funding for the modernisation and expansion of city’s tram infrastructure. Part of the loan will also be invested in the renewal of the tram and bus fleet.
EUR 221 million is the total value of the project to be implemented in the city of Graz.
“With the financial package that has now been provided, we can undertake major investments in public transport on a secure long-term basis,” Siegfried Nagl said.
In 2018, Graz Linien has announced the tram expansion programme, which will see the development of six projects. They include the expansion of the tram network by over 4 km, including the construction of double-track sections. The projects, which will be carried out in different stages, are expected to be completed by 2023.
