EIB may provide EUR 600 million for Pune metro

The European Investment Bank is evaluating a EUR 600 million finance for the construction of metro lines in Pune city, in Maharashtra State, West India.
The total value of the project is EUR 1.5 billion and envisages the construction of two metro lines totaling 31.3 km and 30 stations, as well as the acquisition of the needed metro trains.
The Line 1 will have 16.6 km and 14 stations, of which 5 will be underground stations and 9, elevated stations. the Line 2 will have a length of 14.6 km and 16 elevated stations. This month, viaduct works started at Phugewadi, on Line 1.
Pune Metro project is undertaken by MAHA Metro, a Special Purpose Vehicle of Government of India and Government of Maharashtra.
Pune Metro, will help tackle all these issues, provide comfortable and convenient commute in the city by significantly reducing the travel time by 75%.
Next year, all construction works are scheduled to be launched for the realisation of Pune metro network. The EUR 1.5 billion project will be 50% financed by the authorities – local, municipal and governmental sources, while the remaining half of necessary investments will be covered through loans.
