MPK Wrocław and the European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed on a PLN 165.9 million (EUR 36.7 million) loan to support the tram fleet procurement. The project will be completed by 2025 when will improve quality, safety and accessibility of tramway transport.
The financing will allow the purchasing of a total fleet of 86 modern trams and to retrofit 43 existing vehicles.
In 2020, MPK Wrocław ordered from Modertrans 25 trams and after one year, the public transport company decided to order 21 additional vehicles. All these trams are part of a framework agreement signed with Modertrans to supply 46 trams expected to enter commercial services from December 2022. The delivery will be completed in 2024.
