The European Investment Bank has approved a EUR 134 million loan to the South Moravian Region for the procurement of new passenger trains.
The project envisages the acquisition of 37 new passenger trainsets which will be deployed in South–Moravia region, Czech Republic.
EUR 280 million (CZK 7143 million) is the estimated value of the project which will increase the quality of rail services in the country.
In November, the South Moravian Region authorities have approved the procurement of 37 trains from Škoda Transportation which, starting 2023 will operate on the lines linking Brno to Tišnov, Blansko, Břeclav and Křenovice.
In March 2019, the consortium comprising Škoda Transportation and Škoda Vagonka signed with České dráhy an 8-year framework agreement for the delivery of up to 50 electric, single-decker RegioPanter units and in addition to the agreement, a procurement contract for the supply of 31 electric units for CZK 3.6 billion (EUR 141 million) was signed. The total value of the train procurement is estimated at CZK 6 billion (EUR 235 million).
The new trains will be equipped with modern information system, Wi-Fi, a CCTV system, an automatic train control system and ETCS.
The first trains are expected to enter services in the spring of 2021, running at speeds of 160 km/h.
