Egis, its subsidiary AuditSafe, and its partner Certifer, as the Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) for the Neom’s The Line mass transit system and the Neom Industrial City Connector (NICC) which will comprise of several individual lines covering high-speed rail lines, freight rail lines, metro/GMT rail lines, depot rail lines and platform loops.
The consortium’s role as an ISA for the entire rail system covers the development of all necessary assessment tasks to obtain the required licenses in order to achieve permission for the systems to operate with passengers and carry revenue freight. In addition, the independent safety assessment shall assess that the safety organisation and its responsibilities have been clearly identified and implemented, the design requirements have been validated and verified, the hazard management processes are suitable, risks have been reduced to the lowest level and residual hazards have been addressed through appropriate mitigations.
Neom’s The Line project is a linear urban development of hyperconnected communities with walkable neighbourhoods, powered by renewable energy. The transport system will be located at the physical and digital infrastructure layer beneath the ground of The Line, and will weave 5G, fibre, satellite, and wireless solutions throughout the communities of the urban development.
The Line will run on 100% renewable energy and prioritise health and well-being over transport and infrastructure. The designs provide the most important characteristics of the city, which is 200 meters wide, 170 km long and rises 500 meters above sea level. Covering an area of 34 square kilometers, The Line’s small footprint will contribute to conserving 95% of Neom’s land and supporting environmental sustainability. The linear city will ultimately be home to nine million residents. This will mean a reduced infrastructure footprint, creating never-before-seen efficiencies in city functions. The ideal climate all-year-round will ensure that residents can enjoy the surrounding nature. Residents will also have access to all facilities within a 5-minute walk, in addition to high-speed rail system which will allow residents to reach any part of The Line within 20-minutes.
A combination of technologies will offer an effortless and efficient experience, creating a smart, shared and sustainable public transport infrastructure powered by renewable energy.
Neom is a USD 500 billion project covering the construction of a completely smart and sustainable city situated in Tabuk Province, northwestern Saudi Arabia. The vision includes three main projects, The Line being one of them that will define the mobility in the city that will not have roads or cars running only on renewable energy and 95% of the land designed to preserve the nature.
