Turkish rolling stock manufacturer Durmazlar and the municipality of the Polish city of Olszytn have recently signed a contract worth EUR 20 million for the delivery of up to 24 modern trams.
Piotr Grzmowicz, Mayor of Olszytn, pointed out that trams are the most eco-friendly and cheap transport modes of the whole sector. Therefore, Mayor Grzmowicz said the institution he runs will make all efforts to increase the number of trams in the city.
The first two trams will be delivered in 21 months since signing the contract and the rest up to 12 trams will be delivered five months after the first batch.
The vehicles will be put into operation on the future 6km extension of the second tram line of the Polish city. The line has 11 km and was inaugurated in 2015.
The trams manufactured by Durmazlar will be 2.5 m long and capable to carry 210 passengers of which 40 on seats. The noise generated will be of maximum 73.6 dB which means they will be a lot more silent than the 15 Solaris Tramino trams, currently operated in Olsztyn.
The new generation of trams, called Panorama, was delivered for the first time to Samsun and Kocaeli in 2016. The same range of trams is now delivered to Olszytn. Panorama trams have a life expectancy of 30 years, they have been tested and meet international standards and were granted the certifications necessary for export. The vehicles have a reduced energy consumption, a reduced level of noise and an eco-friendly and safe design.
Durmazlar plans to become an important supplier in the profile market. In 2010, the Turkish Group set up the company Durmaray dealing with the design, software, assembly, testing and delivery of vehicles. The first tram manufactured by Durmaray in 2013 was delivered in the Turkish city of Bursa. The tram is called Silkworm. Since then, 60 such vehicles and 12 bidirectional trams have been delivered to Bursa.
