Delhi Metro services have begun on ITO-Mandi House section, on the Violet Line. Construction work for the single-line extension from Mandi House to ITO was completed in January.
The centrally located ITO station will be serviced by trains at a frequency of seven and a half minutes during peak hours. The station is expected to take traffic-load off the busy ITO intersection, used by over 175,000 vehicles everyday.
Train services on the 971-metre section will carry 22,000 passengers daily in the beginning, a number which is expected to rise to 31,000 by 2021.
The entire Mandi House-Kashmere Gate, a 9.37 km ‘heritage corridor’, will be commissioned by the end of 2016.
