Shortly before the start of the UEFA EURO 2024, Deutsche Bahn (DB) sees itself well prepared for the European Football Championship. So far, more than 100,000 fan tickets and over 25,000 fan BahnCards have been sold.
Climate-friendly travel is therefore clearly on trend during the European Championship, says Deutsche Bahn. The largest and most modern ICE fleet that DB has ever had is ready for passengers in the European Championship summer.
“Never before has there been so much rail at an international football tournament. We are the 25th team at this European Championship. For months, almost 150,000 employees have been preparing for their work in the football summer. Now we are looking forward to a peaceful and happy football festival. Even before kick-off, climate protection is clear as the winner of this European Championship. All fans who rely on the train to travel to the game are helping to achieve this”, said Michael Peterson, DB Board Member for Long-Distance Passenger Transport.
Peterson continued: “The safety of passengers and employees is DB’s top priority. DB has many years of experience with major events. We have been preparing intensively for UEFA EURO 2024 for a long time and in close coordination with the security authorities and UEFA. We would like to thank the federal and state authorities for their excellent cooperation.”
Regarding the current situation of rail traffic in southern Germany, Michael Peterson said: “Rail traffic is getting back on track. We thank all passengers for their patience. In the current situation, journey times will continue to be extended. We want to offer all train journeys on the main routes again next week, and thus also the full range of seats. Our technical teams are working around the clock to achieve this.”
DB will ofer 10.000 additional seats on match days
Around match days, DB will offer almost 10,000 additional seats per day on ICE and Intercity trains.
14 special EM trains alone will be on the move every day.
With 410 trains, the largest and most modern ICE fleet that DB has ever had is available for this purpose.
And to ensure that travel to the games is not only climate-friendly but also inexpensive, DB has developed special offers for German and European fans with the DB Ticket EURO 2024 (bahn.de/db-fussball-ticket ), the Fan BahnCard (bahn.de/fanbc) and discounted Interrail passes (euro2024.interrail.eu).
In addition to the more than 100,000 fan ticket holders, more than 25,000 fans have opted for the Fan BahnCard and over 4,000 European fans for the EM Interrail Pass.
Increased security for EURO 2024
For the tournament, DB is increasing its pool of security guards at train stations and on trains by around 20 percent (or around 900 security guards).
On long-distance trains alone, DB will triple the number of DB security teams deployed during the travel-intensive group match phase, and even quadruple the number on match-intensive days.
In addition, additional passenger guides and volunteers will be deployed at and in the train stations in the host cities.
