Ray Hennessy, the CEO of DB Schenker UK and Ireland and Pat Dowling, the Chief Executive of Clare County Council, have officially inaugurated the construction works for Shannon logistic center, strategically located close to Shannon Airport, Ireland.
The new multimodal terminal has direct access to transport network providing swift access to the western corridor of Ireland and will provide customers all services including air, ocean, land and value-added logistics activities.
The new building has a size of 4,831 square metres in total which includes a warehouse with an area of 3,716 square metres with a clear height of 12.5 meters. The site will be TAPA A certified from a security perspective including boundary fence, full CCTV coverage, access control throughout, intruder alarm, remote monitoring.
The Shannon logistic center is expected to be completed and operational within 12 months.
EUR 10 million is the value of the investment, which reflects the company’s strong commitment to continued expansion in the West of Ireland. “This investment demonstrates DB Schenker commitment to the Mid-West region and reflects the strong growth that DB Schenker has achieved with large multi-national companies over the last number of years” Ray Hennessy said.
The warehouse will be heated and will allow to support temperature control ranges from 15oC to 25oC. The heating system will use a combination of solar panels and energy efficient heat pumps. All lighting systems are equipped with LED’s and the site will be provide for electric car charging stations and will be set up to accommodate future install of truck charging stations.
“The company has grown year on year and this latest investment reflects the very positive contribution the Shannon facility has made to the Company’s global operations,” Shannon Chamber said.
In December 2020, DB Schenker hosted a number of local officials at a groundbreaking ceremony. This marked the official start of the construction process, which is scheduled to run through to the end of Q1 2022, at which time DB Schenker expects to take occupancy of the new building.
