DB launches “Climate Cup” to promote sustainable business travel

Deutsche Bahn has launched the “Climate Cup,” a competition aimed at business customers registered in the bahn.business programme. Companies will have the opportunity to collect “Climate Kilometres” during their business trips and win Business Class 1st Class BahnCards for all employees.

“More and more companies are discovering the train as a comfortable means of transport for business trips. In our modern ICE trains, you can work just as productively as you would in the office. And because the train excels not only in terms of comfort and productivity but also in sustainability, we have launched the bahn.business Climate Cup with great prizes. This initiative actively promotes climate protection while helping companies improve their environmental footprint. In the end, it’s not just the winning companies that benefit, but the climate as well,” Stefanie Berk, Member of the Executive Board for Marketing & Sales at DB Fernverkehr, commented.

How the Climate Cup works

Participating companies will compete in three categories—“Champions,” “Premium,” and “Smart”—based on their bahn.business revenue in 2024. The competition automatically tracks the kilometres covered during each domestic business trip. For every trip, companies will earn Climate Kilometres.

The winners in each category will be the companies that achieve the highest percentage increase in Climate Kilometres by 2025, compared to the previous year. In each of the three categories, the first-place winners will receive Business Class 50 BahnCards for all employees, while second and third places will earn Business Class 25 BahnCards. This means that three companies will win Business Class 50 BahnCards for all employees, and six companies will win Business Class 25 BahnCards.

The competition runs until 31 December 2025, with registration open until 30 June 2025. The winning BahnCards will be available for use in 2026.

Companies will receive monthly updates on their performance, providing an additional incentive to further enhance their commitment to climate protection.
