The Czech rail infrastructrure manager, Správa železnic (SŽ), announced is searching for a contractor to carry out the complete reconstruction and double tracking of another Moravian high-speed rail section.
As the modernisation of Brno – Přerov is expected to begin this year, Správa železnic seeks a contractor to rebuild and construction the second track on the 17 km section between Kojetín and Přerov which will be also equipped with ETCS.
According to SŽ, “highest acceptable bid price” is CZK 11.1 billion (EUR 444 million). The work is planned to begin this year and will be completed by the end of 2028.
The specific work will include the reconstruction of the Kojetín and Chropyně railway stations, which will receive new station buildings and parking lots. Access to the platforms will be via underpasses, from which barrier-free access will be ensured. In addition, both locations will provide connections with areas on the other side of the station.
Under the project, instead of the current Věžky station, a stop of the same name will be created, and a new branch will be located near the village of Bochoř to allow for any crossing between the track tracks.
All 14 level crossings along the section will be eliminated and replaced by either overpasses or underpasses, and a new 120-meter-long bridge will span the Morava River in Kojetín.
The project is proposed for co-financing by the European Union from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and the national financing will be provided by the State Transport Infrastructure Fund.
On this Moravian high-speed rail section is part of the high-speed line from Brno to Přerov and trains will be able to run at speeds of up to 200 km/h significantly reducing travel time.
Správa železnic plans to launch work on the first two sections of the Brno – Přerov high-speed line this year. Work will begin first between Nezamyslice and Kojetín, for which the selection of a contractor is already underway.
In 2023, SŽ awarded a consortium of Sudop Brno, Sudop Praha and AFRY CZ a contract to create documentation for the building permit for the 20 km Blažovice Vyškov section on the Brno – Přerov HSR. This section will be entirely reconstructed and the second track will be built, and the European Train Control System (ETCS) will be installed which all will allow trains to operate at up to 200 km/h. In addition, four new stops will be built which will be significantly closer to the centres of the municipalities.
CZK 545 million (EUR 21.8 million) is the cost of the project for which works are expected to begin and 2026 and to be completed in 2031.
In October 2024, SŽ launched a tender for the reconstruction and the construction of the second track in the Nezamyslice – Kojetín section. CZK 7.7 billion (EUR 308.7 million) is the value of the project for which works are expected to begin this summer and to end in December 2028.
The Brno – Přerov high-speed project is split into five sections and includes the reconstruction of upgrade of the existing tracks and the construction of the second track. The entire line, which will be equipped with ETCS is expected to become operational in 2031.
On the 65 km Brno – Přerov high-speed railway there are planned series of constructions and modernisation works on the existing conventional sections, as well as the construction of a second track designed for a maximum speed of 320 km/h, and with an operational speed of 200 – 230 km/h. The new line can provide more space for the increasing number of trains in the Brno area on the currently modernised line and at the same time ensure a further reduction in travel times for express connections on the Prague – Ostrava backbone route. It will also significantly shorten travel times on the Brno – Olomouc route, up to approximately 30 minutes.
The section is part of the high-speed corridor from Prague, Brno, towards Ostrava, and from here will be connected to Katowice, in Poland.
In 2022, SŽ has published the details of feasibility studies for the proposed high-speed rail network between Prague and Brno as well as on Brno – Přerov – Ostrava route, which were approved by the Ministry of Transport.
Czechia’s high-speed network is designed to provide inhabitants access to domestic and international fast services with connections to Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. The trains will operate at a speed of 320 km/h and the first line to become operational is expected in 2030.
