The Czech Supreme Audit Office revealed that more than 56% of the public contracts of state-owned rail operator Ceske Drahy were divided among only 7 suppliers in 2010-2014. The total value of these contracts was Kc4.6bn (168 million euros). However, the rest of the contracts were divided between 216 suppliers. The total value of all the contracts was Kc9.3bn (339 million euros).
The NKU has also investigated the use of funds for railway repairs and maintenance by railway infrastructure management company SZDC in 2010-2014 and has found out shortcomings in the setting of tenders, as well as large discrepancies of up to 100% between prices in SZDC´s price catalogue and prices for suppliers. The Supreme Audit Office also claims that the SZDC has set too harsh qualification requirements for tenders, restricting thus the number of eligible candidates.
