This year, HŽ Infrastruktura will launch the construction works for the modernisation of Vinkovci-Vukovar railway, a Pan-European Corridor X section. The values of the project is estimated at EUR 55 million.
The projects involves modernisation and electrification works on 18.7 km section line. The modernisation and reconstruction works include the complete replacement of the tracks and sub-base, the modernisation of 12 level crossings and 10 railway stations and halts, the installation of new signalling, safety and communications equipment, the provision of drainage, and the realignment of overhead power lines along the route.
The modernisation of the Vinkovci to Tovarnik section of the Zagreb to Belgrade railway is part of a broader sustainable development strategy to improve connections between Croatian regions, create a ‘crossborder effect’ with Serbia and bring the Balkans closer to the rest of Europe.
