During the seventh annual Central Eastern Europe-China Summit, known as 16 + 1 Summit, Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, announced that intends to develop the cooperation with China in infrastructure projects.
“We need a step forward in the field of railway infrastructure and sea ports. We want to develop our cooperation with China in that area,” the Prime Minister said.
Among transport infrastructure projects, Croatia hopes to collaborate with China on the development of Zadar and Rijeka ports and to implement rail infrastructure projects. “Now is the time to make a major step forward in modernising rail transport. We are ready for a partnership with China in that regard.”
Croatia’s important railway projects include the realization of Rijeka-Zagreb-Budapest line, the modernisation of the 300-km long Zagreb-Belgrade railway, for which an agreement was signed with Serbia.
According to some estimations, over the next 20 years, the needed railway investments have a value of EUR 6.7 billion (HRK 50 billion).
