Contractor selected to reconstruct Jihlava station

Czech railway administration, Správa železnic (SZ), has selected Skanska to carry out the reconstruction of Jihlava municipal station expected to be completed in 2026.

The constructor submitted a bid valued at CZK 1.26 billion (EUR 51.2 million), “the most favorable offer” SZ received, and works are scheduled to begin this month. CZK 1.5 billion (EUR 60.9 million) was the submitted bid with the highest price, and SZ selected Skanska offer which is CZK 240 million (EUR 9.7 million) less.

The station, which is located near the centre of the regional capital, will completely change its appearance and will benefit from new platforms which will be accessed via an underpass. The aging station building will be replaced by a new building, which will also serve as the background for the newly built transport terminal.

The Jihlava municipal station will completely change the shape of the city and the way passenger will get access to its facilities and train services. Two modern platforms ensure convenient and quick boarding of trains. For the safe access of passengers, an underpass will be built, which will also lead under the entire track to Mostecká Street. The stairs to the platform are always complemented by an elevator.

A roundabout will be created at the site of the existing station building. The space after the removed dormitories will be used for the new building that will replace it. There will be a common arrival and departure hall on the ground floor, the first floor will be a waiting room for transferring passengers.

The city of Jihlava will build a transport terminal in the area in front of the station. There will be stops for public transport and regular bus services, as well as a park and ride area with 68 spaces and roads connecting individual parts of the terminal, including a roundabout. The project also includes new public lighting and pedestrian traffic, it also includes alternative transport stops and the expansion of public greenery.

The implementation of the modernization of ŽST Jihlava train station construction is proposed for co-financing by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund within the Transport Programme 2021–2027.
