Moscow City will equip Moscow Central Diameter’s platform turnstiles with terminals for contactless payments. Passengers will be able to use cards that support Pay-Pass and Pay-Wave technologies, as well as smartphones with Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay functions. City residents and tourists will be able to swipe the turnstile reader with their bank cards or mobile devices.
The payment options are now available at metro stations and Moscow Central Circle (MCC) railway stations.
“It is now possible to pass through turnstiles at metro and Moscow Central Circle stations using bank cards or smartphones. This is a quick and convenient fare-pass option because passengers don’t have to record their trips on their transit cards. These diverse payment options help us reduce the number of fare-dodgers and make city transport more convenient,” said Deputy Moscow Mayor, Maxim Liksutov.
It will also be possible to pay MCD fares using Troika cards, which are also valid in the metro, the MCC, surface transport, commuter and Aeroexpress trains. Passengers can also buy bracelets, key rings, trinkets and stickers with Troika card functions; each souvenir has a built-in computer chip. Unified fare passes will allow people to change from Moscow Central Diameters to other transport systems without buying additional cards.
The first two diameter lines (cross city railway lines) linking Odintsovo with Lobnya, as well as Nakhabino with Podolsk, are to start operating in late 2019 or early 2020. Five Moscow Central Diameters are currently being designed. The Moscow Central Diameters will link otherwise unconnected Moscow railway lines, providing seamless connections to metro and MCC stations. The new light-rail lines will help cross the city in 40 minutes.
The first two Moscow Central Diameters will be operated by Ivolga (Oriole) trains with six to seven carriages each, manufactured at the Tver Carriage Plant.
