RATP Dev and ComfortDelGro Transit have formed a consortium to bid for the Copenhagen Metro operations and maintenance contract tender expected to be issued later this year by public transport authority Metroselskabet.
Copenhagen Metro already plays a vital role in the city’s mobility and sustainability ambition and is expected to undergo significant upgrades and expansions over the course of the new contract, while further increasing ridership and minimizing its climate footprint.
“Both RATP Group and ComfortDelGro are recognised specialists in automated metro systems. By joining forces we bring to the table unrivalled global expertise and the experience of delivering high-stake projects, tailored to each client’s unique ambition. All our teams are looking forward to the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities to Copenhagen,” Mehdi Sinaceur, Deputy CEO of RATP Dev, said.
Their mission is to be Metroselskabet’s trusted partner for seamlessly managing complex upgrades, ensuring the well-being of employees and travelers, and delivering sustainable, world-class metro services.
It marks the third time that RATP Dev and ComfortDelGro will combine their global expertise and local knowledge to deliver complex rail projects, efficient asset management, and exceptional service. The two companies have a proven history of successful collaboration on major projects in Greater Paris and Singapore, as part of the ORA consortium with Alstom, to manage the Greater Paris Metro’s automated Line 15 South, and through Singapore One Rail partnership to operate and maintain the new Jurong Region Line in the city-state.
The metro network is served by 44 stations and there are plans to expand the system to provide the metro services to the districts that are still not connected to the metro network.
In March 2020, the metro to Nordhavn and Orientkaj opened and in June 2024 the M4 line extension from København H to Copenhagen South was inaugurated bringing the total length of the network to 43 km served by 44 stations. With the extension of the M4 to south, passengers can travel directly between Orientkaj in Nordhavn to Copenhagen South in Valby via Østerbro, City, Vesterbro and Sydhavn and they can use the connections to the other existing lines changing to the M3 Cityringen at six stations and to lines M1 and M2 at Kongens Nytorv.
The expansion of the Copenhagen Metro network continues as the public transport authority Metroselskabet has conducted an assessment of environmental impacts for the construction of the new M5 line.
In 2024, 126 million passengers travelled on the metro network in 2024, representing an increase of 6 million compared to the previous record from 2023, when 120 million passengers used the services.
