belarusCIS railways need to step up efforts to raise the number of passengers, Head of the Belarusian Railways Vladimir Morozov said at the opening of the 62nd session of the CIS Railway Transport Council on 20 May, BelTA report, quoted by Kazinform.
It is essential to work out an algorithm of activities to raise the number of passengers and to arrange profitable business, the head of the Belarusian Railways said.
He emphasized that in 2014 the number of passenger travelling across the broad gauge territory fell by 40% as against 2013. “This figures regarding the number of passengers travelling between states show that railway companies have lost the initiative, and passengers tend to use other means of transport,” Vladimir Morozov said.
The head of the Belarusian Railways expressed confidence that the representatives of railway administrations will be able to find a harmonized decision, first of all, regarding tariff formation, which will help develop the international passenger service.
According to Vladimir Morozov, the current meeting in Minsk is a good opportunity to continue professional dialogue and create a foundation for cooperation in topical areas, BelTA reports.
