Zhou Li, Director General of the Department for Science and Technology within China Railway group, has explained at InnoTrans 2016 that the development of the country’s rail transport system will be based on eight north-south corridors and a further eight from east to west.
The China’s rail network currently totals 121,000 km and, according to the development plan approved by the government in July, this will be extended to 150,000 km by 2020, to 175,000 by 2025 and, in the longer term, to 200,000 km. As part of this total, the present figure of more than 20,000 km of high speed track will be increased to 38,000 km by 2025 and subsequently to 45,000 km.
