China to build HSR to Moscow through Kazakhstan

Moscova_Beijing_screen shot 2014-10-17 at 7.38.59 amChina will build a USD 242 billion (1.5 trillion yuan) high-speed rail link between Beijing and Moscow. The line will cut the journey time from five to ”two days”, say Chinese authorities.  The rail line will facilitate travel across Europe and Asia, and the journey from Beijing to Moscow would take “two days” on a route passing through Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Transport of Russia, the state-owned Russian Railways Company, China’s State Committee for Development and Reform, and China Railway Construction Corporation in October 2014 signed a memorandum of understanding in the sphere of high-speed railway communication. The Russian Railways Company said that the document aims at developing a project of Eurasian high-speed railway corridor Moscow-Beijing, which will include a rail line from Moscow to Kazan.
Alexander Misharin, first vice president of the Russian Railways Company, said in a last November interview that the project would cost USD 60 billion to reach Russia’s border, and would reduce the time of the Beijing-Moscow journey from five days to 30 hours.
Misharin also said that construction of the proposed Beijing-Moscow railway line would take 8-10 years.
