China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co. Ltd and Myanma Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the elaboration of the feasibility study of Muse-Mandalay rail link. Under the agreement, the feasibility study will be conducted in the next two years, which covers environmental and social impact assessment.
The line will have a 431-km and will allow trains to run at speeds of 160 km/h.
The link between Muse and Mandalay is seen as a crucial for an improved connectivity of the southeast Asia, as it is part of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. This links Yunnan with key commercial centres in Myanmar. The connection is part of China’s initiative ‘Onel Belt, One Road’.
