Romanian railway infrastructure manager, CFR SA, and the European Commission have signed the financing contract worth EUR 440 million for the modernisation of Apata-Cata section, a component of the rehabilitation project of Brasov-Sighisoara railway (Rhine-Danube Corridor).
The modernisation of the 28.44 km railway will continue to reach the objective of promoting sustainable mobility on Hungarian Border – Curtici – Arad – Simeria – Sighisoara – Brasov section.
The value of eligible costs for the whole project is EUR 538,3 million of which EUR 440 million is the value of the non-reimbursable financing granted by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility. Co-financing will be granted from the state budget, EUR 98.3 million for 2016-2020 and EUR 167.57 million for 2021-2023.
„By signing the financing contract, CFR SA has secured the financing for launching the acquisition procedure for works on Apata – Cata section. The company continues the rail infrastructure modernisation programme on the northern branch of the rail Corridor IV, between Curtici – Brasov – Constanta”, declared Marius Chiper, General Manager CFR SA.
