CFR Marfa operates the first RO-LA train after financing approval

CFR Marfa organised the first RO-LA type transport, under the program funded by the Romanian government’s Environmental Fund Administration on the Dornesti-Giurgiu Nord Border-Ruse (Bulgaria) route and return.
RO-LA type transports will be carried out in complete trains consisting of up to 20 specialized wagons on which 20 lorries will be loaded. The railcars will be shipped from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Greece or Turkey, while their drivers will accompany the lorries and will be transported in the sleeping cars owned by CFR Marfa, the Romanian national rail freight transport operator.
”Following our efforts to get subsidies for RO-LA transports, we require continuity in providing this service and stable business relationships with our partners, both economically and in terms of our contribution to better environmental protection and relief of roads,” Marinica Voicu, general manager of CFR Marfa, said.
On July 6, the Environmental Fund Administration announced the approval of the financing project submitted by CFR Marfa within ”RO-LA type transport program”, being the first beneficiary of this program. CFR Marfa owns 160 specialized railcars for the transport of lorries by rail and is the only railway freight operator in Romania that owns such railcars. Moreover, CFR Marfa previously organised such transports on the Wels (Austria) – Glogovat (Arad) route.
We remind that CFR Marfa received RON 14 million lei (EUR 3 million) for developing this new RO-LA project.
