České dráhy has announced tenders with a total value of EUR 419 million, envisaging the acquisition of new rolling stock and the supply and installation of ETCS.
The company has issued a request for proposals for the delivery of up to 50 modern electric units for regional transport. The value of this contract will exceed CZK 6 billion (EUR 235 million). The winner will deliver low-floor EMUs with a capacity of 140 to 160 seats intended for both the main traction systems in the Czech Republic (3 kV DC, 25 kV 50 Hz AC) and for the speed of up to 160 km/h. In the operation it will be possible to connect up to 3 units in one train controlled by one driver with a capacity of approx. 420 to 480 seats. The trains are to be delivered with the European Train Control System (ETCS).
Within the announcement, České dráhy (CD) also issued six separate requests for proposals concerning the equipment of vehicles with the ETCS. The total value of all the six contracts for the ETCS installation is expected at CZK 4.7 billion (EUR 184 million). Each of the tenders includes a specified group of vehicles which CD intends to use on main railway lines also in the future after transition to the ETCS. This means that the company will be able to install the ETCS in as many as 468 currently used vehicles of 24 different series in the years to come. The six tenders are divided into three installation specifications and three general contracts. They envisage the equipment of electric locomotives of the series “380”, the equipment of electric units of the series “680”, the equipment of non-traction units “railjet”, as well as general agreements for equipment of electric units, electric locomotives and for equipment of control cars and vehicles of independent (diesel oil) traction.
