České dráhy (ČD) has launched the construction of the new repair hall at Havlíčkův Brod train repair hall under a CZK 235 million (EUR 9.3million) contract. The new facility will provide services for the RegioPanter and RegioFox regional trains.
The construction will be provided by the company Hala HB, which brings together the companies Chládek a Tintěra Havlíčkův Brod, and TSS Grade. The new hall should be completed and handed over in the spring of 2026.
The two-track train repair hall will have a total length of 67 metres and will be equipped with a double-girder bridge crane with a capacity of up to 12.5 tonnes, service channels, viewing platforms for easy access to the roof of the train set and visual inspection of the entire train. An integral part of the hall’s equipment will also be electromechanical toe jacks, which will be intended for lifting rolling stock, or equipment for extracting exhaust fumes. In the side extension of the hall, there will be facilities for employees or storage space.
“Havlíčkův Brod represents an important point on the map of the repair industry of the Czech Railways. We mainly service regional trains here for two regions – Pardubický and Vysočina. In the past period, we delivered new modern regional trains in the form of electric RegioPanter EMUs and RegioFox DMUs to these two regions. The new hall will be primarily designated for the servicing of these trains,” Michal Krapinec, CEO of Czech Railways, said.
From the depot in Havlíčková Brod, connections are served throughout the Vysočina Region and also in neighbouring regions, such as Pardubice, Central Bohemia or the South Moravian Region. Almost five dozen technicians take care of not only the new 847 RegioFox diesel multiple units, but also the 650 RegioPanter electric multiple units, the 844 RegioShark or the 841 RegioSpider DMUs. At Havlíčková Brod depot, České dráhy also opened a new car wash in 2023.
The new facility is part of ČD’s EUR 480 million programme to modernise, expand and build the maintenance facilities until 2031.
The construction for the new facility represents the second, brand new service hall that České dráhy started building this year. In May, the construction of a hall at the maintenance centre in Cheb started, in which regional trains from the Karlovy Vary Region and long-distance trains operated by České Dráhy in western Bohemia will be serviced.
“The start of construction of the repair hall in Havlíčková Brod is the next step in fulfilling our new ČD repair industry strategy. In the next 7 years, we will invest over CZK 12 billion in the development of our service facilities, which will go not only to the construction of new halls and the modernisation of existing ones, but also to new train washing facilities, as well as modern machinery and other equipment. All this, together with the further digitisation of the entire maintenance process, will allow us to keep the new trains in top condition,” the ČD Deputy General Director for Service, Michal Kraus, said.
