Cambodia launched a 10 km rail link connecting the railway station in the center of Phnom Penh to the Phnom Penh International Airport. The service is operated by Royal Railway.
Currently, two trains are used on the route. Each train has a capacity of about 100 passengers and is equipped with air conditioning system. The ride currently takes about 45 minutes and trains depart at 20-minute intervals, 24 hours a day.
The number of trains will be increased to five when other three trains purchased from Mexico arrive, Transportation Minister Sun Chanthol said. The trains are scheduled to arrive in June and will be equipped with toilets, automatic doors, WiFi and TVs. The trains will be capable of speeds of 80 km/h, cutting travel time to and from the airport to just 25 minutes.
The airport train service will be free of charge until 31 July, at which point Royal Railway will start charging a fee.
