The Italian City of Cosenza, located in Calabria, has signed a contract worth EUR 98 million to design and build a 9.4 km tram line. Thus, the consortium of local civil engineering companies led by Cooperativa Muratori & Cementisti (CMC) and the municipality of Calabria signed the contract for the construction of a new tram line. The tram line, called Metrotranvia di Cosenza, will leave from the Reform Square to the University of Calabria in Rende Campus with a link to the local railway station. Part of the route would require the construction of the railway as a single track, on parallel streets.
The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019, and services will be operated with a tram fleet supplied by Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF.
