Cairo to launch metro train tender

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development announced that in the first quarter of 2018 Cairo will launch a tender for the procurement of 6 metro car sets, which includes the supply of maintenance services. For this contract, EBRD provides a EUR 100 million loan.
At the beginning of 2017, EBRD announced that it has awarded National Authority for Tunnels a loan for the acquisition of 13 metro trains. Last year, the agency awarded Hyundai Rotem a USD 404 million (Won 433 billion) contract for the supply 256 new metro cars for Cairo Metro Line 3.
The Egyptian Transport Ministry Agency National Authority for Tunnels awarded Hyundai Rotem the contract to supply 256 new metro cars for Cairo Metro Line 3. The value of the contract is Won 433 billion (USD 377.5 million) and includes maintenance services for eight years.
The delivery will be completed in 2020.
Cairo Metro Line 3 is under construction and involves a 17.7 km extension from Attaba to Kit Kat Square and from here the extension will have northern and southern branches.
Also, for Cairo Metro system, this year, the EBRD said that will provide a EUR 200 million loan to finance the rehabilitation of the existing infrastructure of Cairo Metro Line I, which will cover urgent infrastructure investments in signalling, telecoms, controls and track works. The project will also be co-financed by the European Investment Bank with a EUR 350 million and by Agence Francaise de Developpement with a EUR 50 million loan.
