Rolling stock manufacturer CAF (Spain) has won a contract to supply maintenance locomotives to RATP for service on its regional railway network in the Paris metropolitan area.
Paris public transport operator RATP (Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens) has awarded CAF a contract for the design and manufacture of dual-mode electric locomotives. This will allow the vehicles to run by drawing power through overhead wires as well as through batteries located inside the units. The EUR 65 million contract will supply 12 units and include the option to acquire up to 6 additional locomotives.
RATP manages the Metro Paris network; city and intercity transport in Paris and the greater Paris metropolitan area; as well as regional lines (RER). In this instance, the units will be used to haul trains providing maintenance for the regional railway network infrastructure which it operates.
According to CAF, the locomotives are expected to be manufactured from mid-2018 at its plant in Bagnères de Bigorre, France. It is likely that the first unit will be delivered in the first quarter of 2019.
