Bulgaria has launched the tender for Orizovo-Mihailovo railway section, under the second lot of Plovdiv-Bourgas project, “which is the most complex one and envisages relocation of the line”, according to Galina Vassileva, Director of the Coordination of Programs and Projects Directorate, Ministry of Transport.
Soon, the National Railway Infrastructure Company will also announce tenders for the rehabilitation of several railway stations and installation of ERTMS/ETCS along the main railway lines.
The second phase of Plovdiv-Bourgas project includes the rehabilitation and modernisation of 296 km estimated at EUR 345 million and it should be completed by 2020. Under the project, the rehabilitation works involve two sections, Orizovo-Mihaylovo and Straldzha-Tserkovski, the modernisation of Yambol-Zimnitsa section and Zavoy station, the reconstruction of tracks at Zimnitsa station. In addition, the project also includes the design and installation of ERTMS/ETCS and GSM-R for Plovdiv-Burgas mainline and the construction of overpasses and underpasses.
Currently, Bulgaria faces tender procedure challenges, and needs an urgent amendment of the Public Procurement Act, otherwise risks losing significant resources under EU funds by 2020. Systematic appeal of tender procedures for railway projects incurs risks for Operational Program Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020, Galina Vassileva explained.
