Bulgaria signs EUR 134 million agreements on rail projects under CEF

BDZ_calatori_5543.1242885268European Commission (EC) has signed the agreements on gratuitous financing of the projects approved in the frames of the first invitation for submitting project proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility in the sector of transport, the press centre of the Ministry of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications announced.
The approved projects are for the modernization of the railway sections of Sofia-Voluyak and Sofia-Elin Pelin. They will be implemented by the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC).
Bulgaria will receive almost EUR 76.5 million, which is 73% of the total project costs, for the Sofia-Voluyak railway section.
EUR 58 million will be received for the Sofia-Elin Pelin railway section, which is 85% of the total costs of planned activities.
A FAIRway Danube project was approved in the water sector.
It includes pilot research for the undertaking of activities to improve ship navigation along the Danube River, which includes the delivery of 2 ships to measure and mark the waterway in the Bulgarian section of the river.
This is a joint project of Bulgaria, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, and Romania.
The Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River is the beneficiary from the Bulgarian side.
Bulgaria will receive almost EUR 6 million, which is 85% of the total project costs.
