Prime Kapital, a Bucharest-based company, founded by South African fund NEPI, has purchased the Emonika, a commercial and shopping centre that is to be part of Ljubljana’s new central train and bus passenger terminal.
Prime Kapital will launch construction works before the end of this year and it estimated to be completed within two years.
The project includes the construction of a 59,000 sq metre shopping and entertainment centre, and 21,500 sq metres of office space.
Initially, Slovenian Railways concluded a construction deal with TriGranit, a Canadian-Hungarian company, but it was put on hold.
In July 2016, Slovenian Railways president Dušan Mes said that the national railway company is looking for a new partner for the Ljubljana passenger terminal project Emonika instead of the Hungarian-Canadian developer Trigranit, being considered that the most serious investors are the South Africa-based funds NEPI and Prime Kapital, local media reported. Trigranit had unsuccessfully applied for EUR 25 million state aid for the planned central train and bus terminal, estimated at EUR 320 million. It then filed two years ago a request for the termination of the contract at a court of arbitration in Vienna.
Within the project, the government will allocate a EUR 25 million foreign investment subsidy for the Ljubljana passenger terminal, as part of efforts to relaunch the stalled project.
The Emonika project is a pubic-private partnership envisaging the construction of new central train and bus terminals in the capital.
