Bombardier intends to bid in an upcoming tender organized by New Jersey Transit for the supply of rail cars, according to sources familiar with the matter. New Jersey Transit has previously said it will order 113 multilevel passenger cars to modernize its aging fleet.
The contract is estimated at USD 500 million at least and could reach higher sums if options are exercised. Proposals for the contract are expected in June.
Bombardier is seen to have an advantage in the New Jersey procurement, according to one of the sources, because it has already delivered 429 multilevel vehicles over the years for the agency.
