Bombardier presents new double-deck train for SBB

10_sbbBombardier and Swiss railway company SBB have unveiled a model of the new 62 double-decker passenger trains the state-owned rail operator ordered five years ago for two billion francs ($2.15 billion).
The Twindexx train, on display at Bombardier’s Villeneuve plant in the canton of Vaud, is set to go into service at the end of next year, two years later than originally scheduled.
According to SBB, the first two trains were tested in Velim in the Czech Republic and were examined in Bombardier’s workshop in Hennigsdorf in Germany. 59 trains will be delivered until the end of 2019. Three additional trains will be added in early 2020.
Thirty of the biggest trains will be 200 metres long, with seating for 696 passengers. Another 23 trains of the same length will include a restaurant, reducing passenger capacity to 621 seats. Nine shorter trains (100 metres) are designed to carry 230 passengers.
