Metra announced that BNSF Railway will begin a major switch replacement project. The BNSF will be replacing 19 switches near its Eola Yard, which is located between the Aurora and Route 59 stations served by Metra trains.
The switch replacement project is planned for completion by August. While most of the work will occur on weekends to minimize disruption to commuter service, BNSF has advised Metra that it will be required to work on several Fridays throughout the summer.
“BNSF has planned this work to minimize disruption to our commuter service and we want to provide information that helps our customers plan their travel. However, the need to complete this project before beginning a major tie replacement project means that we need to schedule some of the work on Fridays,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno.
