RATP Dev secures contract extension as early operator assistance for the upcoming three lines of the Belgrade automated metro system.
The City of Belgrade and the subsidiary of RATP Group have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines the broader scope of collaboration.
Through this partnership, RATP Dev will continue to contribute its extensive international experience and expertise in operations and maintenance to support the functional design and specifications of the future metro system. The early operator assistance contract covers topics such as operations and maintenance, safety, passenger experience, and life cycle cost optimisation.
“This signature exemplifies the effectiveness of our collaboration and the strength of our long-standing partnership. With our cumulated experience in cities such as Paris, Lyon, Riyadh, Sydney, Singapore and Doha, we are committed to delivering a modern and efficient automated metro network for Belgrade. This project will enhance residents’ quality of life by providing a more sustainable mode of transport,” Mehdi Sinaceur, Deputy CEO of RATP Dev, said.
These renewals will allow RATP Dev to continue to provide comprehensive support to Belgrade’s Secretariat for Public Transport and BMV (Beogradski Metro i Voz) in developing the city’s first metro network and future public transit network. This is a pivotal project for Belgrade, aiming at modernising its transport infrastructure and promoting sustainable urban development.
The two sides signed a MoU in 2023 and in 2024 the early operator assistance contract has been renewed.
In 2023, a consortium comprising Deutsche Bahn and Systra was named the project management consultant under which management services for the future metro network will be delivered.
Belgrade automated metro system will be 60 km long served by 60 stations. The first two lines will have a length of 42 km with 25 stations estimated at EUR 4 billion. The first line would be 22 km long with 24 stations worth EUR 1.8 billion, while the second 20 km line with 21 stations is estimated at EUR 2.2 billion. The 23 km long Line 3 will be served by 22 stations.
The entire automated metro system project with three lines is estimated at EUR 6 billion.
