The second phase tender for the Belgrano Norte rail line in Argentina is scheduled for August.
The former Transport Minister, Guillermo Dietrich, admitted that the metropolitan service line is in advanced state of degradation and made promises for the rehabilitation of the line, which is daily used by 70.000 passengers.
Hence, the government in Buenos Aires pledged for a USD 640 million plan in order to rehabilitate and enhance the capacity of the Belgrano Norte railway line.
According to the information handled within the Ministry of Transport, the previous administration had planned for 200 repairment works worth USD 285 million, which were only 10% executed. A high percentage remains occluded: all along the line, there are 54 unfinished works, seven of them within Ferrovías (the branch in charge of the Belgrano Norte rail line) responsibility for the overhaul of rolling stock, track renewal, catenary and signalling.
