argentina-belgrano_mapa_ffcc_belgranonorteThe second phase tender for the Belgrano Norte rail line in Argentina is scheduled for the next weeks. Belgrano Norte rail line is one of the seven suburban railway lines in Buenos Aires.
In July, the Transport Minister, Guillermo Dietrich, recongnised that the metropolitan service line is in advanced state of degradation and made promises for the rehabilitation of the line, which is daily used by 70.000 passengers.
Hence, the government in Buenos Aires pledged for a USD 640 million plan in order to rehabilitate and enhance the capacity of the Belgrano Norte railway line.
According to the information handled within the Ministry of Transport, the previous administration had planned  for 200 repairment works worth USD 285 million, which were only 10% executed. A high percentage remains occluded: all along the line, there are 54 unfinished works, seven of them within Ferrovías (the branch in charge of the Belgrano Norte rail line) responsibility for the overhaul of rolling stock, track renewal, catenary and signalling.

Stage 2 involves track renewals on two sections of the route. In the south, 84km of track will be renewed on the Coronda – Laguna Paiva – Naré section in Santa Fe province. The USD 65 million project will be financed by the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).
At the northern end of the line, 277km of track will be renewed on the Talavera – Pichanal section in Salta province at a cost of around USD 210 million, while USD 105 million will be invested in the renewal of 139km of track between Embarcación in Salta and El Chalicán.
Bids are to be submitted by October and work is due to begin by February 2017.
