Amsterdam to open a new metro line in July

Amsterdam’s new Noord-Zuid metro line will become operational on 22 July. The estimated timetable will however suffer modifications. The initial intention was to run a train on the line 12 times per hour during rush hour, but that has now been reduced to 10 times per hour. In the evening hours the subway will run every seven or eight minutes.
However, transit company GVB expects that there will be some problems, especially when it comes to current travel information on disruptions, because the new line’s functioning with the existing network could not be tested in advance.
The 9.8 km line, which has been under construction since 2002, was completed in January this year.
