Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality awarded Alstom a contract to deliver a full APS ground-level power-supply solution which will be installed on the new 10-km Halic “Golden Horn” tram line.
Under the contract, Alstom will design and supply the continuous traction power transmission system for the entire fleet of 30 trams, spare parts and equipment, with a warranty of two years. The scope of the agreement also includes testing and commissioning of the APS system and training of the maintenance personnel and administrative staff.
With APS, power is supplied to the tram through a segmented street-level power rail. The conductive segments are activated only when fully covered by the tram, ensuring total safety for pedestrians and other road users. The power is picked up by contact shoes located under the vehicle, on the tram’s central bogie. APS helps preserve the beauty of the urban environment while guaranteeing the same performance as overhead contact lines.
