Alstom-Bombardier consortium is the only candidate for a framework contract to supply a fleet of inter-city double-deck EMUs to Belgian Railways (SNCB), amounting EUR 3 billion, Minister of Mobility, Jacqueline Galant told Belgian Parliament. The agreement is however not yet concluded.
Deliveries are due to start in 2017, although Galant told the house it is “unlikely” any trains will enter service in 2017.
The trainsets will be equipped with ETCS, which is due to be rolled out across the entire SNCB fleet by 2023 as part of Belgium’s national ERTMS programme.
The new double – decker trains should be placed in service between 2017 and 2025 in order to cope with the increased number of passengers.
