Italian railway infrastructure manager Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) has awarded Alpiq a contract for the planning and implementation of renewal and optimisation work in the northwest of Italy. Alpiq will carry out the commissioned renewal and optimisation of substations between 2018 and 2021 and will also lead the consortium with Sifel and Gavazzi Impianti. For Alpiq, the value of the contract is EUR 27 million.
The “North-West” package includes the Milan, Turin, Verona and Genoa regional districts. It is one of four packages of the national framework agreements for the renewal of substations throughout the national railway network. These framework agreements have a total budget of EUR 240 million and form a part of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana’s investment plan for the period between 2017 and 2021. The goal behind the investment plan is to drive forward the renewal, maintenance and technology upgrade of Italy’s railway lines, and represents one of the Italian government’s transport and infrastructure priorities.
