Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the alignment and station locations for the Cross Island Line – Punggol line extension, providing eastern and north-eastern connection.
The 7.3-km extension offer better rail connectivity in eastern areas such as Pasir Ris and Tampines North as well as north-eastern areas such as Punggol and Sengkang.
The Punggol extension will be fully underground and comprises four stations, namely Punggol, Riviera, Elias, and Pasir Ris. Three stations are interchange stations, providing transfer to and from the East-West Line, North East Line and Punggol LRT. This will shorten travel times and provide alternative travel options for commuters, as well as help to redistribute commuter load across the entire rail network
The construction is expected to be launched in 2022, and it is expected to be operational by 2031.
The Cross Island Line is Singapore’s 8th MRT line and has a length of 50 km.
