A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed, in Algiers, between Algeria’s Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires (SNTF) and the French Failways (SNCF) regarding several projects.
This partnership will cover the areas of training, railway engineering, the passenger and freight transport and logistics, and provides the fundation for the creation of a joint company specialized in infrastructure maintenance. In this respect, it was agreed that both parties should participate jointly in future tenders in Algeria.
The agreement also covers the transfer of the know-how of SNCF regarding booking systems, services and ticketing.
Earlier this year, French company Alstom has signed a contract with SNTF to supply 17 Coradia Polyvalent inter-city trains. The contract is worth around 200 million euros. The first train will be delivered in January 2018. This investment is part of SNTF’s programme to modernise and extend its network. The trains will link Algiers to destinations such as Oran, Annaba, Constantine and Béchar.
